Pre-existences and conditions

  • high in the mountains with strong climate conditions and difficult access; there are no services
  • the building must be build very fast due to very short time without snow
  • it should have low energy consumption and be self sufficient as communications are difficult many days of the year
  • site is located by a trekking crossroad

Concept and solution

  • modular system completely built in a workshop and transport by helicopter to the site
  • each module carry already all installations and furniture; they are only 'piled' and connected on site
  • red colour cladding can be easily recognised from distance; contrast with snow and grass
  • vertical composition allow efficient use of energy with levels of temperature:
    • technical rooms and water tanks on the lower floor
    • non heated entrance in first floor as thermal buffer zone
    • main room and restaurant as only heated space in the core of the building
    • bed rooms on top floor profit of the heat of the main room
  • photovoltaic panels and water collectors guarantee autonomy
  • foot bridges and entrance displace the crossroad into the vestibule
